Lesson 1: What Would it Take? (Understanding Paths to Change)
Students will reflect on their Soapbox speeches and begin planning how to take action on their issue!
Write routinely over extended time frames (time for research, reflection, and revision) and shorter time frames (a single sitting or a day or two) for a range of discipline-specific tasks, purposes, and audiences.
Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grade 8 issues, texts, and issues, building on others' ideas and expressing their own clearly.
Assess their individual and collective capacities to take action to address local, regional, and global problems, taking into account a range of possible levers of power, strategies, and potential outcomes
