Lesson 1: Root Cause Analysis
In order to better understand what questions to research, students need to identify the root causes of their issue.
NOTE: This activity may not work for every issue. The Root Cause activity works best on an issue where students have expertise or experience (e.g., fighting in the lunchroom). In addition, be sure to frame the issue in the trunk of the tree as an actual problem. For example, “education” is not a problem, but “lack of adequate funding or resources for education” is.
