Lesson 1: I Am a Writer (Finding Your Writing Voice)- Day 1 of 2
In this lesson, students will explore their own background, experience and feelings towards writing and examine what makes different kinds of writing persuasive and effective.
Note: this lesson could be done over two days, allowing more time for students to evaluate a variety of writing and time to prepare for the role play, brainstorming for the role play responses on day one and having a larger conversation on day 2.
Determine an author's point of view or purpose in a text and analyze how the author acknowledges and responds to conflicting evidence or viewpoints.
Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of using different mediums (e.g., print or digital text, video, multimedia) to present a particular topic or idea.
D3.1.6-8. Gather relevant information from multiple sources while using the origin, authority, structure, context, and corroborative value of the sources to guide the selection.
D3.4.6-8. Develop claims and counterclaims while pointing out the strengths and limitations of both.
